ISSUE 54 - 5 July 2008

Welcome to Issue 54 of Current Lines

North Cape Action Early June: Fishing from the charter vessel Addiction out from Tom Bowling Bay on the 6th June, Andrew Peace of the Tangimoana Club caught a striped marlin that measured out 104” long and 46” around the girth. – A nice fat fish. While kept and smoked at Houhora, no weight was advised.
Dave Scott on Addiction also reports that they hooked, but busted off, a large blue at the Parengarenga Trench on the 5th of June. In Dave’s words “ This was the wildest fish I have seen in 2 years full time on the boat!!”
Hookn’ Bull is also advised to have gotten a stripie at the Kings Bank several days later and in the past 2 weeks have had a couple of nice stripies on and lost a broadbill close to the boat on 8kg line.

Did you know the IGFA is now on EBay?  Last week, the IGFA launched the International Game Fish Association Store on EBay. The store will host items that have been donated to the IGFA for auction and resale purposes. Items such as tackle, rods and reels, book and artwork will be up for auction in typical EBay style.  100% of the proceeds from items sold on EBay will be donated to their education and conservation programs. Do you want to see what they are currently offering? http://stores.ebay.com/internationalgamefishassociation

Marlin Late May at the Mercs!! On a recent fishing excursion Warren Harris (Wazza) not only caught the clubs last marlin for the season (30 May 08) 120kg, he actually caught another one, that’s correct – two for the day! Thinking the first fish for the day was good enough for the records and not wanting to win all of the Mercury Bay Game Fishing club’s trophies, he decided to process the second fish on board.

Bluefin Tuna: Just as this season ends, another is just about to kick off.  Yes, some of the charter boats in the North Island are preparing to travel south for another cold winter GIANT Bluefin Tuna season.  It has been reported that a new chair is going on Reel Passion and that Mark will have ESPN onboard to film some of the action. Early indications are that the weather patterns bode for some difficult fishing conditions.
