New Zealand’s premier line class point’s championship The NZSFCNATIONALS’ competition is coming soon to a club near to you. Stay tuned to your VHF’s. Look up the daily results on the internet, Facebook, or your local club weighstations. 16th – 23rd February 2013. 22 species to be caught on 18 different line classes, 14 different sections, and 30 national NZSF Council trophies. 8 days continuous fishing from the Three Kings to Stewart Island, east coast to west coast.

A reminder that PL Mobil Card is here!– As members of NZ Sport Fishing you will receive 10c/L discount off pump price at participating Mobil Service Stations and Truck Stop outlets and now also Pak N Save & New World Supermarket Fuel Outlets.  As from 1 February you will be able to use PL Mobil Cards at PL Marinas.  It’s great to see Sport Fishing Account Applications coming in.  We thank you for your support, as does NZ Sport Fishing.  Remember, when you fill up on your PL Cards, you are also supporting NZ Sport Fishing.  I know their hope is to eventually considerably reduce your subscriptions from this support! Further areas around our coast line have reported marlin - captures since the last issue, New Plymouth, Hokianga, Manukau, Kaipara, Port Waikato and Whangamata showing they have arrived in bulk.

Whangamata has two big fishing competitions just around the corner and fish are showing up inside Mayor Island. Scott Bennet fishing from a 5M Fleet line trailer boat “Down Town” caught the first weighed across from their wharf weighstation that weighed 115.8kg. Caught on a live bait 70m inside Mayor Island.

Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club, Friday Flash, fishing report How good to be able to report that we have now weighed our first marlin for the season. The first marlin weighed was a 135.4 kg fish caught by Troy Burnett from the vessel ‘Segador’ on Sunday 13 Jan. On Monday Michael Green caught a 113.3 kg fish from the vessel Greenies Waka 2. This was the first marlin for the season for a club member. Both fish caught in ‘CHEMWASH’ Congratulations guys.

New Plymouth Sportfishing Club reports – local trailer boat Tru Blu III on 13 01-2013 weighing 124 kg caught on 24 kg line and there are reports of marlin within Kayak range.

Bay of Islands– The vessel Achorage, whilst fishing in the Northern Junior Interclub competition, caught a magnificent blue marlin for a junior angler weighing 206 kg on 37 kg line. This fish is a pending club and NZ Junior Girls line class record.

From Tutukaka- 6.1m Surtees runabout ‘Walkabout’ caught their first marlin, a blue marlin weighing 96.4 kg. Angler Dave was over the moon with his first marlin capture.

From Whangaroa– Local Hotel publican and club weighmaster’s son, Luke Stevens, went out and caught his first solo anglers marlin weighing 137.2 kg. New owners of the Kingfish lodge, Jaqui Donald fishing on local charter vessel ‘Double Strike’ caught her first marlin weighing 125.5 kg. Having just arrived from Christchurch this was a fine introduction to Northland living

From IGFA - They will be honouring the Class of 2013 at the Third Annual Legendary Captains & Crew Ceremony on the 16th February 2013, and this Class includes our very own Snooks Fuller.  Congratulations Snooks.

GENTLE REMINDER– please check you are a current club member before you go fishing as you never know when you may catch a trophy fish.

Correction from Current lines issue 8th January 2013– it was incorrectly reported “John Peck from the Mt Maunganui Sportfishing Club, tagged a marlin on the 29th December at Whangaparaoa. It was in fact tagged off Whangaroa Northland NZ.
