LARGE STRIPED MARLIN CAPTURED OFF THE MANUKAU BAR - 11 April 2011

On Saturday 9 April Richard Alexander along with deckie/driver Alastair Kellett captured a large Striped Marlin weighing 197kg. It is the largest Striped Marlin capture in NZ so far this year and is in line for the NZ Sport Fishing Council's Lord Norrie Gold Cup for the heaviest Striped Marlin capture each year in New Zealand.

It was the first day out game fishing in Richard’s new 5.5m Stabicraft. They travelled out over the Manukau Bar and around 1 ¼ hours into the day the fish grabbed a BigT Lumo coloured lure running on a 24kg rig. They were in around 70m of water off the Manukau Bar.

The ensuing fight lasted 35 minutes and the fish was weighed and identified at ‘The Big Fish Bait and Tackle’ in Auckland.

Well done Richard on the fish of a lifetime.
