Maunganui Bay temporary closure 2009-20

DECISION: APPROVED

Introduction

Maunganui Bay, Bay of Islands.

A temporary closure to the harvest of all fish, marine life and seaweed, except kina, has been applied to Maunganui Bay since 2010. Each temporary closure is for a 2-year period and is requested under section 186A of the Fisheries Act (1996).

Ngati Kuta and Patukeha ki Te Rawhiti make the applications as mana whenua of Maunganui Bay, including Deep Water Cove, in the southern waters of the Bay of Islands.

The s186A application is made to the Minister of Fisheries who reviews it and approves or amends the application. The most recent application will apply from 14 October 2020 and expire in October 2022.
