New Zealand Sport Fishing Council > Mangawhai Boating & Fishing Club

Mangawhai Boating & Fishing Club

Mangawhai is situated 1 1/2 hours north of the harbour bridge and less than an hour south of Whangarei on the east coast.

The Club was first formed in 1966, and in 1998 affiliated to the NZBGFC (now the NZ Sport Fishing Council Inc).

The harbour offers 2 boat ramps for easy lauching and sufficient parking for trailers although maximum capacity if often reached in the height of summer. Either stay within the safety of the harbour to partake in your boating activities or if conditions permit, cross the Mangawhai Bar with care and the choices are plentiful.  Within the hour you can be in some great fishing & diving spots. Head north to access Langs and Bream Bay, south to explore Te Arai, or head out to the Hen & Chick’s or Sail Rock. Add another hour and you can access the bounty of the Mokohinau Islands or Little and Great Barrier Islands.

In calm conditions crossing the bar can be a breeze but like any bar crossing safety and care must be taken at all times. Read the information available at the boat ramp, talk to the locals and ask for advice, go in and see the staff at the local tackle shop or get in touch with our club.

Subscriptions to the club 2019-2020 season are: :
$80.00 Family (Parents & Children under 16 years @ 1st July)
$60.00 Senior $ 15.00 Junior (Under 16 @ 1st July) $ 10.00 Midget (Under 10 @ 1st July) Includes affiliation to NZSFC
