Current Lines August 2016

The All Blacks are two from two, our closest rivals Springboks one from two, the Pumas one from two, and our next door neighbors “Lostralia”, says it all.  The Black Caps have lost their first test under their new captain, “steady the ship, Williamson” and spring is in the air.   The weather is getting better, the daze is getting longer, I wish for fishing.   The irony here, the song playing on the radio is Boston’s dust in the wind

So it’s confirmed! – This is straight from the Clevedon Game Fishing Clubs Facebook page, Chad Haines Shortbill Spearfish (44.2kg) caught during the Fitzroy one base run by Clevedon Game Fishing Club is in fact a WORLD RECORD.   Very big congrats from all the Committee mate, looking forward to seeing the certificate

Ahipara team fishing in this year’s HIBT; Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament place third overall.  Check out the results here at WWW.HIBT.com a full daily breakdown with comments and pictures.  Well done Ahipara Gamefish Club.

A recent trip down to the Pacific Bluefin capital of New Zealand, saw a group fishing under the De Coro Fishing Supplies team.  Day one nothing, day two broke some off with gear failures, day three played one for six hours just to pull the hook at the boat.

From the Big Fish Fishing club.  The Firth and the top of the Coromandel have been consistently producing good numbers of fish, and it is said most are coming home early.

The New Zealand Sport Fishing Council has its annual AGM conference this year in the sunny sea side vista of Whangamata on September 16 and 17.  Hoping all delegates are in attendance, and looking forward to a wonderful experience and learning a bit more on our amazing fishery in New Zealand.

A lot of clubs at present are having their annual general meetings.  Congratulation to all those trophy winners we are seeing on Facebook.  Well done to those who have stood up and been voted onto various positions on committee, without these volunteers our clubs could not exist, bravo, well done.

At the recent Houhora Big Game and Sportfishing club’s AGM, long time club supporter and one base coordinator Debbie Bunn was awarded Life Membership.  Well done Debbie and I’m sure we all are looking forward to the next Houhora East versus West Onebase.

At the recent Mangawhai Boating and Fishing Clubs AGM we were able to prize one Scott Macindoe to leave Auckland and pop up to, magical Mangawhai on the pretense of giving a little talk to our members after the meeting and before our prizegiving.  Well those present were in for a treat, Scott was in great voice and form keeping those present amused, informed and silent for the best part of 35 minutes.  On behalf of the club, a big thank you Scott.

Have you booked time off work, time away from home for the 2017 SIMRAD Nationals yet? The dates for this great fishing extravaganza are Saturday 18th to Saturday 25th February 2017.  Who will be back to defend their 2016 titles?  Who will step up as the pretenders to the throne only to falter on the last strike and miss out by 50 points?  More will be revealed over time.

Now is the time to check, repair, replace and service all your tackle while there is a spring in your step, rugby on the TV, and the thought of the new seasons fishing just starting to come to life.  Be warned if you wait until the last minute, while those out there are reporting fish everywhere, it will be too late!  Time lost equals fish lost.
